WHAT IS THE TM PROGRAM?

The Transition Mentor program is an essential part of the first-year experience of all undergraduate students at Victoria College at the University of Toronto.

All incoming first-year students will be put in a mentor group led by a Transition Mentor, an upper-year Vic student, who will help orient them to university life throughout their first year. Mentors will provide new students with opportunities to connect with peers, get engaged with Vic and U of T, and meet their personal and academic goals.

After leading first-year students through Orientation Week, Mentors will:

  • help students find and access various academic, personal, mental health, financial, and extracurricular resources available at Victoria College and U of T.

  • host weekly drop-in social events and workshops to help students form connections while accessing important resources.

  • participate in monthly excursions focused on community building while exploring Toronto attractions.

First-year students will also receive a weekly newsletter written by the Orientation and Transition Intern! This newsletter will provide timely tips, campus events, and pointers for making the most out of your first year at Victoria College!

WHAT are the TM events?

All incoming first-year students are encouraged to join our TM events!

Introducing Goldring at a Glance! Hosted by the Transition Mentor Team, it is a social event where lunch is served. It is also a great opportunity for first-year students to meet their transition mentors and learn about tips to adjust to university life. Goldring at a Glance will be held weekly in the Wendy Cecil Atrium (first floor of the Goldring Student Centre) from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm, date TBD. Come enjoy a free lunch while learning and socializing with your peers!

Additionally, the Transition Mentor Team will be hosting one evening activity every week in the Wendy Cecil Atrium, date and time TBD.

what is Monthly social?

All incoming first-year students are encouraged to join our monthly social! Occurring throughout the year as monthly excursions, this series aims to provide incoming students with opportunities to explore the city of Toronto! Often referred to as “the Six,” Toronto is home to an abundance of sights and a plethora of community supports.

Every month, students will be invited to attend a free excursion around the city, accompanied by their Transition Mentors!

All events are drop-in and city-bound excursions include free transportation.
