General Safety TIps

Our beautiful campus is located in the heart of a bustling downtown core. While UofT and Vic have implemented standards, protocols, and supports to keep you safe, your personal safety starts with you! Whether you are living on-campus or commuting, you should be aware of the best practices to keep you safe. Read through the top tips below and watch our @VicCollegeLife instagram post on safe commuting. Keep scrolling to learn more about the campus & community safety supports and resources.

TOP TIPS:

  • When possible, travel with a friend. Let others know where you are going and communicate when you arrive safely.

  • Be aware of people and things happing around you, and leave if you feel uncomfortable.

  • Always walk on bright and busy streets at night, or walk in a group. Stay away from dark areas such as parks or alleyways. While our campus is adjacent to the lush Queen’s Park, it is best to avoid walking through it alone at night. Stick to well-lit, busy streets.

  • Do not carry large amounts of cash or valuables out in the public.

  • Do not let people into your residence if you do not know them. Lock your door even you are home.

  • Use the UofT TravelSafe program. Be escorted by a member of campus safety between University buildings and adjacent TTC stations.
